These mini book reviews appeared in Little Shop of Stories’ 2012 Summer Reading Guide.

We love books and we love dogs! We especially love dog books and Oh No, George! quickly became one of our favorites. Poor George really does want to be a good dog. But what’s a dog to do when there is dirt to dig, cats to chase, and most importantly, cake to eat? George’s inner conflict is captured so perfectly in Chris Haughton’s retro style illustrations, you and your little ones are certain to laugh out loud as you recognize just how much we are all like this tormented dog.

Oh No, George!, by Chris Haughton, $15.99, Candlewick. Recommended  for ages 2 to 5.

East Dragon and West Dragon have never met, and they are pretty glad about it. East Dragon thinks West Dragon’s expansive wings must make him especially strong, and West Dragon is convinced that East Dragon’s swishy tail must make him especially fierce. But when some unruly knights cause problems for the two kingdoms, East Dragon and West Dragon must join forces to save the day. Part folk tale, part silliness, this book will have you rooting for an unlikely and unexpected friendship.

East Dragon, West Dragon, by Robyn Eversole and Scott Campbell, $16.99, Simon and Schuster. Recommended for ages 4 to 7.

Both titles available at the Little Shop of Stories, 133A East Court Square, Decatur, 404-373-6300, www.littleshopofstories.com.
