These mini book reviews appeared in Little Shop of Stories’ 2012 Summer Reading Guide.

Let’s face it — life is so much better with a glue gun, glitter and some googly eyes. Chloe wants to give her friend Emma THE perfect birthday gift, but when another girl buys it, Chloe must get crafty and MAKE the perfect gift instead. Readers will adore Chloe, who is a spunky, determined young girl with a warm and giving heart.

Crafty Chloe, by Kelly DiPucchio and Heather Ross, $17.99, Simon and Schuster.

One day young Chloe gets lost in the woods on her way home, and when a dragon leaps out, so too does the confused author of the book, who had specifically requested a lion from the book’s illustrator. Chloe’s story hangs in the balance as Mac Barnett, the author, and Adam Rex, the illustrator, try to decide just who gets to decide Chloe’s story. Will Chloe be able to save the day AND her story?

Chloe and the Lion, by Mac Barnett and Adam Rex, $16.99, Hyperion/Disney Press.

Both titles available at the Little Shop of Stories, 133A East Court Square, Decatur, 404-373-6300, www.littleshopofstories.com.
