Dining Out

Dine with Shakespeare at the Tavern

The Shakespeare Tavern has produced over 73 plays, including over 30 Shakespeare titles and period classics from Aristophanes, Machiavelli and Tennessee Williams. For those wishing to supp with their theater, the Tavern offers a broad selection of Irish ales and premium brews, including meals under $10. Enjoy an authentic Shepherd’s Pie or the King’s Supper Sandwich while experiencing a Shakespearian play the way the playwright would have intended. The restaurant is set up much like the Globe Theatre and each play has an active relationship with the audience, hand-crafted costumes and live music.

The Tavern’s website offers a “bardometer” scale of how “kid-friendly” the performance is and how hard the play is to grasp so parents can judge which plays are suitable for a family outing, or better as a date night for parents. Ticket prices range from $12-$32 a person, but you’ll find the experience is worth the money, or thou art an ill-nurtured malt-worm. 499 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta. 404-874-5299. www.shakespearetavern.com.
