If you’ve never been camping and aren’t sure whether you’d like it, the First-Time Camper program with the Georgia State Parks department will help you get acquainted.

The program offers Camping 101 (a park ranger meets you when you arrive and helps you get set up); rental of REI equipment (tent, sleeping pads, camp stove, lantern, camp chairs); and two nights at a campground (one of six). All for $45.

Participating parks include A.H. Stephens State Park (Crawfordville); Fort Mountain State Park (Chatsworth); Fort Yargo State Park (Winder); James H. Floyd State Park (near Rome); Reed Bingham State Park (Adel); Skidaway Island State Park (Savannah); and Victoria Bryant State Park (near Lavonia).

Check www.georgiastateparks.org/FirstTimeCamper for more info.
