World Playground, Putumayo Kids

One of my favorite collections of children’s music is Putumayo Kids. The Putumayo label boasts an array of wonderful choices such as Latin Playground, Brazilian Playground, Asian Dreamland, and many more.

Recently I listened to World Playground again and it is by far my favorite. Each of the 12 songs is from a different country, giving the listener a taste of music, literally, from around the world. Some of the artists cover old favorites such as “Three Little Birds” by Cedella Marley Booker and Taj Mahal and “Nyanpi Matilda (Waltzing Matilda)” is sung by Trevor Adamson in the Aboriginal language of Pitjantjatjara (piddin-Jah_ra).

The booklet included has the story behind each song, and a transliterated as well as a translated version of the song. My 4- year-old loved that we could learn the words in the different languages, and see what they mean.
